The drive toward the Nickerie region usually takes around 3.5 to 4.5 hours, depending on traffic and stops. After the road journey, continue by boat. This is where the trip starts to feel special. The road disappears behind you, the landscape opens up and birds start appearing around the water. Pack your day bag smartly for this part. Keep sunscreen, water, camera, sunglasses and anything fragile close to you. Choose soft luggage if possible, especially when water levels are low or when luggage needs to be moved separately.

Akira appears in the distance like a small wooden village on the water. The first impression is calm and simple in a good way.
