France
the must sees in fantastic france
France is one of the countries which I visited the most in my life I guess. Mainly with my parents when I was young, with the car and small trailer with tents and the main supplies for camping. Later I went by myself to surf the west coast and visited Paris a couple of times. France is only a couple of hours drive from the Netherlands, that is why France is a very popular holiday destination for our Dutchies.
France has it all; stunning landscapes with of course the many vineyards, producing the world’s best wines and champagnes. Next to the wines, France is also known for the cuisine. The best chefs are educated in France and you find Michelin restaurants everywhere in the country. For me the macarons and croissants are the main reason to enter the local boulangerie and pâtisserie. In the evening sit on a sunny teras in a cute historical town and order a cheese platter next to the wine of course, you cant make me happier than this. France has a rich history with Napoleon as most famous historic emperor; on Corsica you will see a lot of his heritage.
The South of France or the Côte d‘Azur, how the French are calling the area from Toulon to Menton, including the independent state of Monaco. Another terminology is the French Riviera, but all the names go hand in hand with old fisher towns, turquoise bays, mondain and luxury villages at the Mediterranean Sea or visit the purple Provance more inland. Enjoy the medieval hilltop villages and baroque architecture. Stroll through Nice, swim in the azure water at Antibes, visit the perfume museum in Grasse, go shopping in Saint-Tropez, stroll through the port of Monaco and walk the red carpet in Cannes. Whether you love art, culture, history, wine or nature the Côte d‘Azur has it all. See below my separate blogs about this area.
I visited Corsica in the same holiday as the Côte d‘Azur, easy to combine and have different vibes in one holiday. The mountains, and more rougher landscapes and villages are the opposite of the decadent style in the South of France. I loved Corsica the vibe is different but still France.
